A mixproof valve prevents cross-contamination by separating two process media with independent seats and an intermediate leakage chamber. When both seats are closed, the chamber provides a separation zone between product lines. How Double-Seat Isolation Works

A valve mixproof design uses two sealing elements arranged along the same process axis. When the valve is closed, the two seats form an intermediate chamber that separates the upper and lower product paths.

This structure differs from a conventional single-seat divert valve because seal failure can direct leakage into the intermediate chamber instead of immediately connecting the two media.

The Isolation Sequence

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning performance depends on access to the sealing surfaces and intermediate chamber. During CIP, controlled poppet movement can expose areas that remain closed during normal operation.

A mixproof valve should be inspected for several conditions:

  • Seal wear or deformation

  • Leakage outlet condition
  • Residue accumulation
  • Abnormal movement during operation

Replacement intervals should reflect cycle frequency, cleaning chemistry, temperature, and the properties of the processed medium.

Selecting a Double-Seat Configuration

A properly configured double-seat valve combines physical separation with visible leakage management. This makes it suitable for process lines where different fluids must pass through shared equipment without creating an uncontrolled cross-connection.


Sanitary Pneumatic Double Seat Clamped Mixproof Valve 

  • When the valve is opened, the fluid can pass from one body to the other.
  • Once the valve is closed, the double seat creates an annular chamber that isolates the dodies sealing them with double seals. It allows a CIP operation providing an interface between the two fluids, preventing the possibility of product contamination.
  • Due to the leakage detector any leak of a seat seal is detected by the apprearance of liquid at the bottom of the valve. The zone between the poppets and the seats is cleaned by pulsing the individual poppets when the specific line is being cleaned, the poppets are fractionally stroked by two additional limited movement pistons located within the main actuator.
