For hygienic processing with tri-clamp connections, a sanitary spring-loaded safety valve provides overpressure protection through a direct mechanical principle: system pressure acts on the disc against a preset spring force. Select SS316L wetted parts with Ra ≤ 0.8μm finish for food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical lines; SS304 suits less aggressive media. To set the valve, adjust the spring compression until the disc lifts at the required pressure. The valve reseats automatically when pressure drops 8-9% below the set point, maintaining system integrity without external power. Install vertically with adequate discharge piping and verify set pressure with calibrated test equipment after installation.

Direct Spring-Loaded Operation Principle

The mechanical spring holds the disc against the seat, determining the opening pressure. When system pressure generates enough force to overcome spring compression, the disc lifts, opening a flow path to relieve pressure. The sanitary pressure relief valve uses this direct mechanical principle with no pilot valves or external controls.

Operational stages:

  • Normal: Spring force exceeds pressure force; valve remains closed

  • Overpressure: Pressure force overcomes spring force; disc lifts to relieve

  • Pressure drop: System pressure decreases; spring forces disc back to seat

Set Pressure and Blowdown Precision

The difference between opening and reseating pressure is termed blowdown. For typical sanitary relief valves, fixed blowdown ranges 8-9% below set point. A valve set at 10 bar reseats around 9.1-9.2 bar, ensuring system pressure does not drop excessively after relief.

Material Selection

Component Standard Alternative
Wetted parts SS316L SS304
Non-wetted parts SS304 -
Seal material EPDM / FKM / PTFE Silicone
Spring Spring steel -

SS316L provides molybdenum-enhanced corrosion resistance for aggressive media. The sanitary air release valve construction requires crevice-free, self-draining wetted surfaces with internal finishes meeting Ra ≤ 0.8μm or better.

Tri-Clamp Connection and Installation

Tri-clamp connections enable rapid, tool-free assembly and disassembly. The clamp compresses a gasket between ferrules, creating a crevice-free joint meeting 3A standards.

Installation requirements:

  • 📐 Vertical installation with valve upright for proper spring operation

  • 🔧 Adequate discharge piping to handle relieving capacity

  • 📏 Verify set pressure with calibrated test equipment after installation

  • 🔄 Isolation valve upstream if removal for cleaning is required

Surface Finish and Cleanability

Internal surface finish determines cleanability and bacterial resistance. Wetted parts of the sanitary pressure reducing valve receive mechanical polishing followed by electropolishing. Electropolishing reduces Ra values to 0.5μm or lower, improving corrosion resistance and enabling effective CIP/SIP protocols.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

3-A Sanitary certification ensures product contact surfaces meet hygienic design requirements. ASME code compliance requires the valve to reach full lift at no more than 10% above set pressure. Springs must meet standard fatigue resistance and temperature stability requirements.

Maintenance and Service Life

Regular inspection ensures continued performance of the sanitary relief valve. Spring set point drift, disc and seat wear, and sealing surface integrity require periodic verification. PTFE or EPDM seals require replacement based on service conditions.

Maintenance checks:

  1. Verify set pressure with calibrated test equipment quarterly

  2. Inspect disc and seat for wear or damage during each service interval

  3. Replace seals if cracking, hardening, or swelling is observed

  4. Check spring for corrosion or permanent deformation

The tri-clamp design allows quick disassembly for these checks. The sanitary air relief valve requires the same maintenance attention to ensure reliable pressure protection.

Sanitary Stainless Steel Tri Clamp Safety Valve

  • Sanitary Pressure Safety Valve is to adjust the spring compression nut to calibrate a particular pressure. The calibration of pressure is to fix the maximum pressure to avoid the equipment damage. In the normal working operating pressure, the valve is closed. When the system pressure exceeds the fsysterm and the equipment. The valve is with start the open device for the CIP cleaning of the safety valve and the piping.
  • The Pressure Release Safety Valve is a special valve through a rigorous calibration, but to make the valve more realistic operating conditions, so the conditions shoud be as mush as possible the scene of the valve and then parity.
