A sanitary diaphragm valve uses a flexible diaphragm to isolate process fluid from the operating mechanism while providing controlled shutoff or flow regulation. The clamped stainless steel design uses SS316L, an EPDM+PTFE diaphragm assembly, and clamp connections for dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other clean process lines. The specified range covers DN15–DN80 with working pressure up to 10 bar.
Diaphragm Action Keeps the Process Path Isolated
The diaphragm closes against a weir inside the valve body. This separates the wetted chamber from the stem and bonnet, reducing exposed mechanical areas within the process path. CNC machining supports consistent sealing surfaces, while mechanical or electrolytic polishing can produce a smoother internal finish.
Hygienic diaphragm valves suit systems where product retention, cleaning access, and contamination control require close attention. The standard internal finish is below Ra 0.8 µm, with finer surface options available. Diaphragm material should also match the process medium and cleaning cycle.
Why Tri Clamp Connections Matter
A tri clamp diaphragm valve uses detachable clamp connections instead of a permanent welded joint. Valve removal is therefore more convenient during inspection, diaphragm replacement, or piping modification. Clamp dimensions should match the tube standard to maintain proper gasket compression and alignment.
CIP and SIP conditions should be evaluated together with temperature, pressure, diaphragm chemistry, and internal finish. The specified diaphragm assembly supports EPDM from -40°C to 150°C and PTFE/EPDM from -10°C to 150°C. Working pressure reaches 10 bar.
| Selection factor | What to verify | Process effect |
|---|---|---|
| Body material | SS316L | Wetted-part suitability |
| Diaphragm | EPDM+PTFE or selected elastomer | Temperature and chemical compatibility |
| Connection | Clamp size and tube standard | Joint fit and maintenance access |
| Surface finish | Standard or polished option | Cleaning and product retention |
| Operation | Manual or pneumatic | Local or remote control |
Manual Valve Operation and Solenoid Control
Manual operation suits local isolation and adjustment. In an automated system, a sanitary solenoid valve can control pneumatic air to an actuator, while the actuator moves the process diaphragm valve. These components perform different functions within the same control arrangement.
Before installation, the medium, pressure, temperature, diaphragm material, clamp dimensions, and cleaning cycle should be verified against the selected configuration. A 316L body, controlled diaphragm compression, hygienic surface treatment, and removable clamp connection form a suitable combination for clean process piping requiring fluid isolation and service access.
