Din Compliance Of Sanitary Check Valves
A sanitary check valve is DIN-compliant only when its dimensions, connections, materials, and applicable requirements match the specified DIN standard. A DIN label alone is not enough. Before installation, the exact standard, connection size, surface finish, seal material, pressure rating, and supporting documents should be verified.
What DIN Compliance Means
DIN compliance depends on the specific requirement being checked. In hygienic piping, DIN standards can cover connection dimensions, tube geometry, fittings, and installation requirements.
A sanitary non return valve should therefore be evaluated against the exact DIN specification used in the pipeline.

Connection Standard Comes First
For DIN sanitary piping, the valve connection must match the tube and fitting system. The following points should be checked:

- Connection dimensions and end type

Material and Surface Finish
Stainless steel sanitary check valves are commonly produced in SS304 or SS316L. SS316L is often selected where higher corrosion resistance is required.
For hygienic service, the wetted surface finish also matters. A surface roughness of Ra ≤0.8 μm is a common specification for sanitary valve construction.

How the Valve Controls Reverse Flow
A sanitary check valve permits flow in one direction and closes when pressure reverses. Depending on the design, a disc or ball moves from the seat during forward flow and returns when differential pressure changes.
Spring-loaded models may use a defined cracking pressure, while other designs rely on pressure, gravity, or internal geometry.
Tri-Clamp Designs and DIN Systems
A tri clover check valve is widely used in hygienic clamp-connected piping. Its removable connection can simplify inspection and maintenance.
However, Tri-Clamp and DIN connections are not automatically interchangeable. Ferrule dimensions, gasket profiles, tube standards, and installation conditions must be compared before selection.
