Install a clamped sanitary filter with magnetic core and 304 or 316L stainless steel body on food and beverage lines to capture ferrous particles from equipment wear, rust, and raw materials. The Tri-Clamp connection enables tool-free installation and rapid core removal for cleaning. The magnetic element captures fine ferrous particles down to 1 micron, while the sanitary filters stainless steel construction with Ra ≤ 0.8 µm finish prevents bacterial adhesion. Available in sizes 1″–4″ (DN25–DN100), pressure up to 10 bar, temperature -20°C to 150°C. EPDM, silicone, or PTFE seals are FDA-compliant.
The Contamination and Compliance Challenge
Ferrous particles enter process lines undetected, damaging pumps, scoring valve seats, and compromising product quality. Regulatory audits increasingly require documented contamination control. A sanitary inline strainer with magnetic filtration removes these particulates while maintaining hygienic conditions. The sanitary strainer design ensures no crevices or dead legs where product can accumulate.
Contaminant sources removed:
-
🔩 Equipment wear particles from pumps and valves
-
🧲 Rust from piping and storage tanks
-
⚙️ Raw material impurities
-
🔧 Production line debris
-
🧪 CIP chemical residues
Clamped Connection and Sanitary Design
The Tri-Clamp connection enables rapid installation and removal without tools. Operators unclamp the housing, withdraw the magnetic core, clean it, and reinstall—all without breaking pipe joints. The clamped joint is crevice-free and self-aligning, supporting CIP and SIP protocols without disassembly. The sanitary filters stainless steel construction with polished internals prevents bacterial adhesion and meets 3-A sanitary standards for food contact.
Key design features:
-
Tri-Clamp connection for tool-free access
-
304 or 316L stainless steel with Ra ≤ 0.8 µm finish
-
Magnetic core captures ferrous particles down to 1 micron
-
EPDM, silicone, or PTFE seals (FDA-compliant)
-
Self-draining design for complete product evacuation
Magnetic Filtration Performance
The sanitary strainer removes ferrous particles through a combination of magnetic attraction and mechanical straining. The magnetic core generates a high-gradient magnetic field that captures fine iron and steel particles that pass through standard mesh screens. The perforated stainless steel core provides mechanical straining for larger non-ferrous debris. This dual-action design achieves sanitary filtration efficiency that single-stage strainers cannot match. The filtration process operates with minimal pressure drop, preserving pump efficiency.

Applications and Selection Considerations
The sanitary filter is installed on dairy processing lines, beverage filling systems, brewery transfers, pharmaceutical transfer lines, and CIP supply headers. The sanitary strainer protects pumps, flow meters, and filling nozzles from particulate damage.
When selecting:
-
Media type determines material — 304 for water/general; 316L for acidic or high-purity.
-
Magnetic strength — standard for most applications; high-intensity for fine particles.
-
Size — 1″–2″ for small lines; 3″–4″ for main process lines.
-
Seal material — EPDM for water/general; silicone for high-temp; PTFE for aggressive chemicals.
The clamped design allows quick removal of the magnetic core for cleaning, and the sanitary filter operates with minimal pressure loss.
Installation and Maintenance
Clamp the filter housing to the line using Tri-Clamp gaskets. Tighten clamps to specified torque. Connect the inlet and outlet per flow direction arrows. To clean, unclamp the housing, withdraw the magnetic core, wipe ferrous particles from the core, and reinstall. The core requires cleaning every 4-8 hours depending on particle loading. The housing supports CIP without disassembly. Replace seals every 12-18 months.
This filter design delivers efficient ferrous particle removal with the sanitation compliance food processors require. The clamped magnetic filter combines 304 or 316L stainless steel construction, Tri-Clamp connections, and magnetic core technology to protect product quality and process equipment while meeting hygienic standards.
Stainless Steel Clamped Magnetic Filter
Magnetic Filters are used for filtration of iron particles from products in liquid/slurry form. They are essentially used in chemical, food, pharma and oil industries.
Different materials are used for permanent magnets. Commonly used magnets are made from AlNiCo, ceramics or rare earths. Taking into account the application parameters, magnets made of rare earths (neodymium magnets) offer the highest flux density and thus the greatest attraction for dirt particles. A disadvantage is that the material is very susceptible to corrosion and must therefore always be protected by a coating or stainless steel housing.
